Rules of Blackjack

Before a person chooses to play casino games, either online or at the fanciest Las Vegas casino, the most important first step is to fully understand the rules of the game. Although blackjack can easily appear to be one of the simplest card games, there are actually many layers of intricacies to the game. Once a person understands the basic rules of blackjack, then they can start working on the many strategies and styles of the game that will continue to increase their winnings.

The basic object of blackjack is to make the value of your hand add up to 21. When a player's hand goes over the value of 21, this hand is then called a “bust,” and the player loses. If the player reaches the value 21, or is the closest player to this value, then the player wins the game. The problems arise when a blackjack player has a good hand, let's say with an added value of 18, which should win, and then the dealer hand adds up to the value 19. The dealer would then win this hand for being the closest to the value 21.

Casino blackjack is played between the player and the dealer. In order to keep a skilled dealer from beating out players at a casino, the dealer is limited to a very strict set of rules by which he must play. This makes the computerized dealers in online casino blackjack no worse than a live dealer who is limited to special rules. When a blackjack dealer's hand reached the added value of 17 or more, the dealer must stop taking cards, “hitting.”

Once a player is dealt their initial hand, they just add the numerical value of the cards, in which suites play no role. Card from 2- 10 remain at face value, while all face cards have the value of 10. The only truly special card in the game is the Ace, which can be either a 1 or an 11, depending on what the player thinks would serve them best.

If the players hand is low enough to risk taking another card, this is called a “hit.” When a player chooses to keep their hand without any added cards, this is called a “stay.” And any blackjack player who receives a hand with the value of 21 automatically wins the game!

How to Play Craps

The game of craps is played by rolling two dice on a specially formated craps table, which is usually in it's own separate room in the casino. The game is split up into two separate phases, called the coming out phase and the point phase.

During the coming out phase in a craps games the player tries to roll a 7 or 11 after placing a bet on the pass line. If a 2, 3 or 12 is rolled this is called a “Craps” and the bet is lost. If the player rolls a 4,5,6,8,9 or 10, then a point is established and the player moves on into the point stage of the game.

During the point phase the number that the player rolled as a point must be rolled again before a 7 is rolled. New players can stick to this basic strategy during the point phase, and once they get the logic behind the game it becomes easy to play.

An alternative to the basic strategy is to bet on the “Don't Pass” bet line instead of the “Pass” bet line on the coming out roll. This means that during the first roll a player will win on craps and lose with a 7 or 11. Once a point is established this was a player would win if a 7 is rolled before the point number.

During both the coming out phase of the game and the point phase different side bets can be places which will help the player increase their winnings. It's not only the player who can get in on the action in a craps game, any person standing around the table, which can be up to 12 people, can place a bet on the player. The dice move around the table as each person fails to make their point.

What is Keno ?

Keno is a brick and mortar and online casino game that is similar to the Lotto. The game first showed up in China many years ago and was then brought to the United States as early as the mid 1800's by Chinese immigrants. Since the game is so easy to play, it has become incredibly popular at casinos, and has the possibility for large winning payouts with relatively small bets.

Keno is most often played in the lounges at brick and mortar casinos that are specially set up just for Keno players. However, for players who don't want to sit in a Keno lounge, most casinos offer “Keno Runners” who will collect your tickets and deliver winnings to wherever a player is outside the Keno lounges. For those players there are many television sets stationed around the casino halls to keep players informed of the winning numbers.

For more active Keno players there are video Keno games which are similar to slot machines. It plays with the same, lotto type style, but the results are available much faster to players.

When playing Keno the player selects a minimum of four numbers with a maximum of 10 numbers, all between numbers 1 and 80. These number selections are called a “Spot”, which means a player who selects 8 numbers to play is playing an 8 spot game.

To start a Keno game players just purchase a Keno ticket at one of any Keno tables located in the Casino, or at the Keno lounge. The casino will give the player a “Keno Crayon” to mark the ticket with the numbers of their choice. Once a Keno ticket is market it is then returned to the Keno desk, and a second, duplicate ticket is returned to the player. Soon a group of twenty Keno balls will be drawn randomly from a barrel containing 80 balls numbered 1-80. If enough of a players selected numbers are drawn the player is a winner, and the ticket is returned to the Keno desk to collect winnings.

What is European Roulette ?

Roulette, which originated as a European game coming from a French world meaning, “small wheel.” Although the game has divided into two different versions, European Roulette and American Roulette, the two are very similar to each other.

In both European and American Roulette, a croupier spins a wheel which has a certain number of separately numbered pockets. The croupier then drops a ball into the spinning wheel, on which players bets are placed. In European Roulette the slots are numbered 1 to 36 and colored red and black, with the number 1 slot being red. There is another green pocket numbered 0, and colored green. The single zero wheel is what distinguishes European Roulette from American Roulette, and the difference causes a large number of variations in the betting system and the odds for the game.

In European Roulette, if a player places a bet on a single number and then wins, the payout is 35 to 1. In this bet the original wager is returned so the total win is the bet multiplied by 36. However, players in European Roulette can bet on many numbers, combinations, ranges, odds and evens and even colors.

The house advantage in European Roulette is 2.7%, as opposed to the 5.3% advantage in American Roulette. This means that in European Roulette the odds of losing money is half that of American Roulette. Also in European Roulette players use a larger table, and players use standard casino chips of differing values.

Although some people have certain strategies for European Roulette, some feel that there are really no specific strategies that will increase the odds of winning. The Martingale betting strategy for European Roulette claims that if the gambler doubles the bet after every loss would cause the player to recover all previous loses with the first win, plus gaining a profit equal to the original bet.

What is American Roulette ?

Anyone who is a fan of online casino or brick and mortar gambling establishments has heard of Roulette. It is one of the most popular casino games to date, and is loved for it's simplicity by fans of games of chance. The game roulette originally came from France, and the word itself refers to the French word for “small wheel”.

However when the game Roulette came to the United States, a new style of Roulette was born. The main difference between American Roulette and the original European Roulette is the extra slotted space in the roulette wheel on the American version. In the European version of the game there are 37 slotted spaces numbered from 1 to 36, and colored alternately red and black, with the number 1 starting as red. Also in the European version of the game is a green pocketed slot numbered 0.

In the American version of the Roulette wheel there is an extra numbered slot, a green slot numbered 00. While this seems like a relatively small deal, the extra space allows for a huge variation in betting types and gaming opportunities.

In American Roulette the double zero slot actually increases the house advantage to 5.3%, as opposed to European Roulette where the house advantage is only 2.7%. American Roulette also uses the “non-value” style chips, which means that a person must decide on a monetary value for all of their chips when the purchase the chips for play. The American Roulette table is also much smaller, allowing the croupier to collect and distribute chips by hand.

There is also a little used third style of the Roulette wheel, which is actually the only style of roulette table legal for use in the United Kingdom. This wheel has the American style layout (which includes English on the table), and then uses the European single zero. When single zero wheels are found in American casinos, they are always wheels of this type.

Although both styles of Roulette are great for casino gambling, it's important to know the difference between the two styles in order to increase your chances of winning.

Baccarat, The Basics

The game of Baccarat is often times played in a separate section of brick and mortar casinos, on a table similar to a craps table. The game is played with three casino dealers present, and up to 12 or 14 players are allowed to play at one time.

Baccarat is also called Punto Banco, because of the two principal bets made in the game- Punto (the player) and Banco (the bank). The third bet used in Baccarat, Standoff, is rarely used, although is a valid bet which can reap its own rewards. In come casinos the players take turns serving, but some casinos only use their own hired dealers. With online casino Baccarat automated virtual dealers, or live dealers working over webcams are used.

Every player, including the player serving as the dealer, may place their bet on either Punto or Banco, but it is a matter of customer that the player dealing bets on Banco. A player may choose to pass on being a dealer, in which case they pass the “Shoe” or deck to the next player. As long long as Banco continues to win, the dealer may hold on to the Shoe, but as soon as Punto wins the shoe is passed on to the next dealer.

To start the game two hands are dealt, and players place their bets on which hand will win (Punto or Banco), or that the hands will tie. The payoff for the two bets are even money, 1:1, except for the Standoff bet which pays either 8:1 or 9:1 depending on the casino.

So what's the difference if the bets pay even money? The Banco bet will cost the players a 5% commission to the casino because of the built in advantage for Banco bettors. Card enthusiasts have determined that over an 8 deck cards play, Banco will on average win three to four more hands than the Punto bet.
